Last year’s attendance across the school was 96.3%. This is somewhat short of our target of 97% and to make up that 0.7% means that we need to increase our attendance by 550 days. We have a target because I want to encourage children to be at school every day they are able to attend. Of course when a child is poorly, the best thing for them is to stay at home and recover but otherwise we want the children here to make progress with their learning. Any absence from school will disrupt your child’s learning.
Therefore, we especially discourage children from going on holiday during term time. Some parents think that a holiday will be educational but any child in this situation will still miss out on the teaching that their classmates will receive during that time. The law makes it clear that parents do not have an automatic right to take their child out of school during term time and a holiday in term time can only be authorised in “exceptional circumstances”.
If you wish to make a request for a holiday then you will now need to complete a form available from the office. Please complete and return this form at least 14 days before the start of the holiday.
I hope that you can help us improve our attendance this year so that we reach our target of 97%.
